Quiet vs. Noise

A little survey for our letter Q.

How do you craft or crochet?

Do you need to concentrate in the Quiet or do you need Noise while you mindlessly go through the motions?

My answer: when it is a familiar or repetitive pattern, I love to watch a movie or TV show while I'm working. If it's a little intricate to start or I have to count stitches, I need quiet concentration for the first few minutes.

What about you?

  1. I. like. quiet. Period. I crave it no matter what I'm doing.

  2. I enjoy watching tv or a movie while crocheting. But sometimes I have to stop it or mute it so I can figure out a complicated part of the pattern.

  3. For hand sewing, I can watch Movies or just listen to music. At the machine - I can't even really hear if the music is on, so I don't mind the quiet.

  4. I definitely need noise! I'm unable.. ok, I find it extremely difficult.. to concentrate if there's nothing on in the background and I get bored easily. Even if the pattern is complicated, I just tune it out until I get the hang of it.

  5. I need background noise of some kind . . . TV or radio is perfect. Just don't ask me what is going on in either one of them .. . I just like the background noise. Growing up, Dad always had a radio going at night when I went to sleep, so I like TV or radio on when I go to sleep to . . . even though that happened 60 years ago, it is imbeded in my psyche.

  6. I love reading, but have trouble finding the time anymore. My solution: books on tape - all the time! During crafts (if I can do them mindlessly), during laundry, meal prep, etc. I put them on my ipod and take my books and "read" through all my daily activities - as long as the kiddos don't need my attention.

  7. definitely a background noise crocheter. i usually do it while i'm watching a movie or tv (usually BONES!). also, i work backstage in the theatre, so it's really great to crochet backstage in between duties. i've found that it actually KEEPS my attention on what's going on on stage!

  8. I am the same way!! When I am making things I've made many times before, I love to watch Hulu. =) If I am creating something new, it has to be dead silent- which is usually around midnight. I need more sleep!! haha

  10. If I actually want to get something finished it definitely has to be quiet. I am far too easily distracted :)
