Boys

You know you're surrounded by boys when this conversation pops out of nowhere:

"That's my favorite thing about butterflies...

...you get to spell 'butt'."

Yep.

Ummm, no

Would you try this (if you had the balance/ability)?

Projects

I'm here! There are tons of projects just waiting to be posted, but my computer is having issues with the pictures. Grrrr. What's a blog post without pictures?

If a project is completed, but doesn't get blogged, did it really ever happen?

I leave you with that philosophical conundrum.

Perspective

We just restocked our Tylenol. Is it sad that I looked at the bottle and said to myself, "Oh! That will cover 25 headaches!"?

Just wondering.

Feeling Patriotic

Happy Independence Day, my fellow Americans!

More pictures of the blanket will appear after completion. ;-)

New Mama Card

Ever since I bought this stamp set, I've been so excited to use it!

...and then it sat...

...and sat...

...and waited...

...and now (years later), I've finally put the stamps together and made a card. It would have been a shame to waste that money on unused stamps, right?

Hmmm. Picture issues. Well, the back has a tiny pair of feet punched out of silver paper, and the words "Happy Waiting!" underneath.

I'm not always a big fan of puns, but I'm a big fan of saying "You go, girl!" The play on words worked for me. ;-)

Updates

Since I last posted, it's been a little crazy around here. We've had a weekend away for a training event with junior high students, we made a whirlwind trip from Wisconsin to North Carolina for a funeral, had a huge event involving a formal dinner (hubby cooked) and high school students acting out a mystery for adults and peers, and our first weekend available to actually be at home was spent with a sick hubby. No Mother's Day celebrations for us except enjoying what Mama's do best--taking care of family, right? I wouldn't trade that 'down-time' for anything!

Well, in spite of all the craziness, I have completed a lot of crafty projects! Some with paint, others with paper, and definitely a bit of crocheting.

While I work on actually getting pictures onto the computer, I have a question for you fellow crafters.

Have you ever packed for a trip and scaled back on your 'necessities' in order to make room for your crafts? Have you spent more time deciding which crafts to take than what clothing to take? Tell me all about it! I love to hear your stories!

Today...

...will be spent like this.

Here's hoping the big people in the house avoid it.

A regular goofball

My favorite conversations seem to happen while preparing or eating lunch. I never quite know what to expect, but it's always entertaining! Recent example:

Son: Well, VeggieTales teaches us at least one thing!
Me: That 'God made you special, and He loves you very much!'?
Son: ...and not to point! Because they don't have any arms OR hands!

Yep. I didn't see that one coming.

Bananas In Pajamas

Our boy was greeted by this on the kitchen table one morning.
Giggles, galore.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Snow, snow, snow

We've been getting a lot of snow lately.
This is only the beginning.
Thick, heavy, wet snow.
Many, many more inches fell. It's a joy being so close to the lake!

Post-sledding Fun

Here's a quick picture from some sledding fun this weekend.

mmmmm...what's better than a thermos full of cocoa waiting for you in the car to warm you up a bit? Remember playing outside so long that your cheeks were this rosy and cold? Ah, the sheer joy of childhood fun!

A picture

A friend just sent this to me. It's a pretty good depiction of my life!

https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?ui=2&ik=4c6ba7a4df&view=att&th=13cb02e6f688e631&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_hcunex860&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P8tvEli5eSIKH5kjs7IfIdo&sadet=1360165757316&sads=qp7g268EBj6lLOL5SESIB4VNv-g&sadssc=1

Perhaps if this was accepted for my driver's license picture, it would be more recognizable as being me. Seriously, I've had to 'reintroduce' myself over email to people as 'the crocheter' so they know who I am when they don't remember my name.

I love everything about this.

Now where can I buy those socks?

Sweetness

They're always so sweet when they are sleeping! Since he's still sleeping this morning, I declare this an 'awww' moment of motherhood. Forgive my veering off crafts for this.

I just came across this picture looking for a Christmas doily that I wanted to post.

...never did find a picture of that doily. I'm afraid that I gave it as a gift before remembering to take a picture. =(  So you just get this wrong-time-of-year photo instead.

Coconut Oil

I know that coconut oil is extremely good for you, and it's very good for your skin.

...but perhaps not so good when splattering directly out of a hot skillet.

Ouch.

A giggle for today

Our son just came running to me laughing about something (which isn't unusual...). He was saying, "Yes!! I found it JUST like this!"

Searching through his Lego box, what should he find?

...a baby wearing a helicopter pilot's helmet, of course!

Peeps and Kewpees

Today our family went to see this special Peeps exhibit at the Art Museum because Rachel had a submission. It was so much fun! While most of the displays used actual (unnaturally fluorescent) marshmallow bunny and chick Peeps, I loved that Rachel's wasn't going to decompose anytime soon. (I voted for you, Rachel!!)

Photo stolen from Rachel's blog - Pretty in Peep
After that, we walked around downtown a little bit, then stopped for lunch at Kewpee's. The boys had burgers and their homemade root beer, and I had some chili. Yum! While we were eating, I noticed a few dolls in their wall of Kewpee Dolls had little crocheted outfits on them. I didn't figure that hubby would be willing to take a picture for me, so I just asked the family sitting there if I could take a picture over their heads. They were very sweet and understanding.

Little bright ruffly dress!

On the first shelf are some little crocheted pilgrim outfits, and on the second shelf there are some smaller ruffly dresses!

After that, I realized that there was another section that had a Mrs. Claus and a cute orange dress on another doll, but I'd already used up my bravery of interrupting other peoples' lunches, so I'll have to save those for another (less busy) day. =)

Snow Fun

We awoke to this:

Notice that dear man with the snowblower? He cleared off pretty much the whole block! Gotta love kind neighbours.

Therefore, this:

Yep, it's taller than the kiddo! Such fun!
**Just in case you're interested in my obviously brilliant plan (which translates to 'necessity is the mother of invention' or 'desperate times call for desperate measures'), that snowman mouth was drawn on with lipstick.

So much crocheting

I was thinking that I've been 'crocheting like a madman' lately.

Clearly, he's not a madman... Source
But it makes me wonder, what exactly does that mean? Is it any different than crocheting like a 'madwoman'? I must know.

Someday I'll take a break from the hook to post the pictures I've taken...

**Edited to add: As Moriah pointed out, it looks like he is knitting, but if you click on the source link, they describe his work as Tapestry Crochet, a series of slip stitches. Whether or not that is what he is doing in this picture? Who knows.
