Iris Folding - Mother's Day card

One of my catch-up projects is a card I made for my mother-in-law for Mother's Day.

This is a pretty simple Iris Folding pattern, so it was a fun and quick project to finish up one evening of a very busy week.

If you're looking for how to make something like this (they look much more intricate in person...pictures don't do them any justice), I have a tutorial here. I'll be sharing a few more later this week.

(Yes, I know that's not what tulip leaves look like...oh well!) =)

  3. I love Iris Folding! My kids like to help though, so I haven't done any cards for awhile. And I like the leaves:)

  4. Ok, I'm lost. Why is it called iris folding when the result is a tulip?

  5. Marie Anne--That's hilarious!!! I don't know why I didn't think of that.

This type of paper craft is just called Iris Folding. From what I found, this is why it's named that: "The technique originated in Holland and it is called iris folding because the center of the design resembles the iris of a camera or eye." source: http://www.circleofcrafters.com/irisfolding/index.html

The center of the paper pattern is called the iris and is traditionally filled in with holographic paper. So, this Iris Folding pattern happens to be a tulip. I have some others to show later this week like a teapot, simple shapes, and even Christmas Bells.

Hope that makes more sense now! =D
