From what I found, this is why it's named that: "The technique originated in Holland and it is called iris folding because the center of the design resembles the iris of a camera or eye." source: http://www.circleofcrafters.com/irisfolding/index.html<br /><br />The center of the paper pattern is called the iris and is traditionally filled in with holographic paper. So, this Iris Folding pattern happens to be a tulip.
