Long overdue thanks

Nearly a month ago, Rachel from The Life of Riley awarded me The Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award, and I haven't taken the time to properly thank her.

Thank you, Rachel!

Go check out her blog. She is an amazing quilter, seamstress (do people use that word anymore? do they take offense to it? ...sorry, my mom's still old school and uses that word, so what do I know? "sewer"? "sew-er"? "sew-ist"? ...moving on), and an all-around creative crafter!

In order to accept this award,
I need to tell you 4 of my guilty pleasures.

Are you ready for this? I'm not sure I am... (deep breath...) Dive in!

1. Bones. Have I ever mentioned that I'm a Bones fan? Probably not, because it's too easy to get started talking about it. We don't watch much TV at our house (with the exception of some great shows on Netflix like Monk, Top Gear, and Psych as well as the occasional movie), but we turn on the TV each week for Bones. I was first introduced to it during the writers' strike. I watched the full season that was online, then went back to the beginning to watch them straight through from Season One. It's not for everyone--it's gory and scientific with unexpected humor thrown in, thus putting it in the category of "dramedy" - a crime drama combined with comedy. There are also certain episodes that I can't stomach watching more than once, but since it is currently in its Sixth Season, it's easy to skip over the bad and find the good ones. (So true confessions time: Did anyone watch this week? Who didn't melt at Billy Gibbons handing over those tiny little hats??!!) Did I mention that I shouldn't get started talking about Bones? If you've made it this far, you're also a fan or wondering just how crazy I can actually be. It's OK, I don't mind.

2. Smarties Candies. Ahhh, a lovely moment of childhood. What is it about those that I love so much?

3. Reading. I can much too easily get sucked into books and stories. It is really quite dangerous. I've been known to get so caught up in stories that it affects my outlook and attitude of a day.

4. Shopping. I don't have unlimited patience for it, but I really like to find good deals. It doesn't matter if it is clothing or craft related, I still feel bad spending the money on things I don't "need." I sure love the hunt for the deal, though!

Which brings us full circle to #1: Bones. Last week, my dear, sweet, loving husband was at Best Buy checking prices on something for work. He'd had a gift card for quite some time, and he was checking out some game things or other stuff boys enjoy. ;-) In the process, he came across Bones DVDs for Season 4 and 5 (the two seasons I don't currently own). They were both on sale (for a ridiculously low price!!!), PLUS he had the gift card, so dear loving man that he is, bought them for me. Even better, he knows how much I love a good deal! Only spending $5 per set is an amazing steal! Yep, I love him even more for saving money when he was thinking of me. ;-)

Now you know why I stick to crafts rather than talking about myself on here! I'd lose readers faster than I can blink!

It's time to pass on The Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award to Carol at Naturally Carol! She's a lovely lady from New Zealand now living in Australia, and she is such a sweetie! She's been working hard for some time to collect cushions for people that have lost so much due to the February earthquakes and flooding. Check out her beautiful collections of cushions!

Another huge Thank You! to fellow blogger and friend Mary at The Epic Adventures of Skarymop & Co. for sharing the Stylish Blogger award. She has a fantastic blog of funny stories and AMAZING recipes! Hop over there and follow her for some great cooking inspiration!

...and now back to your regularly scheduled crafting...

  2. Congratulations on your award. Since you brought it up, I enjoy Bones, too. I just found it last year, but I've seen all the episodes, thanks to Netflix. And I love to read, too. If only there were a way to read and crochet....

  5. Isn't everyone addicted to Smarties? Although, here in Canada we call them Rockets. Anyways, you are the only other woman I know of that would list Top Gear among their fave tv shows... I knew I was following your blog for more than just crocheting :)

  6. Claire--ha ha!!! That's great! Top Gear friends!! Netflix doesn't have ALL of the seasons, but I really want to go back and see the episode where Richard Hammond apparently injured himself pretty badly. It sounds morbid, but I know he's OK. I just heard a tiny blip about it at some time, and I'm oddly interested to know what happened. I'm just SURE we can't be the only two women that crochet while watching Top Gear, right?!

  7. Also a Bones fan. Some of the humor in that show is terrific. But I love most crime shows ... Curious if you've got any good book recommendations as I'm also an avid reader and always interested in testing new waters with the books that others love.
