Crochet Thread and Bead Necklace, Take Two

I took several suggestions from you all on my latest attempt at crocheting with beads (oh yuck...I was typing too fast, and it came out "crocheting with meat." Oh PLEASE!! That is when you know you've taken your craft too far!).

On my next trip to Hobby Lobby, I found some beads that I thought worked really well with what I had. However, once I put them together, I didn't like the combination with the thread. I also added a strand of gold thread to it, only to learn that my new beads had a very tiny little hole...

Here's the result:
You can see the gold thread at the top, and it just adds a little sparkle to the thread. But it almost dulls down the smaller beads.

Can you see why it has taken me several days to post this? I was a little disappointed.

But, I still really love these beads! Click on it for the full effect of the design of the bead.

Today, I picked up some actual gold beads (smaller than these golden-yellow ones) to see if it gives me more of the look I want. Of course, that was after I double-checked that the hole was larger on them. =D

Suggestion time again! Should I create this same look but swap in the gold beads? Or should I put the gold in between the decorative ones? Should I try something completely different?

I welcome your suggestions and advice!

  1. If you crochet with meat, you could make a new dress for Lady Gaga!

I love those beads, they are so cool! I think I would experiment with putting the small gold ones between the larger ones, but I would just string them on a piece of thread first to see if it looked nice, before you do all the work of crocheting them. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with, bead crochet is high on my list of things to try.

  2. Have you tried placing thee beads on dental floss of fishing line that is clear? Then you can see the beads but not the "string.'

Cut yourself some slack ... you'll get to where you're making jewelry you love!

  7. Ha ha! You guys are funny!

Marie Anne--I think that for some reason, the yellow-gold beads seem too dull for the other beads, so it detracts from how pretty they are. I'm not giving up yet! =D

  8. Hi Mindy..I reckon a red or purple thread would really bring out the zing in those beads. I have spent the morning making calico cushion linings for your lovely crochet covers. A good friend Marie..who is much better at crochet then me..has now taken them away to put them on the cushions. I will show you when they are finished. I am accepting the award you kindly gave me on my blog today. Have a lovely day!

  11. The beads are gorgeous! LOL @ the Lady Gaga comment!! I would agree with the first comment saying to experiment first to see which way you like better. It still looks good the way it is, but maybe a different color thread.
